In the machining of precision mechanical parts, high strength and toughness are required. Their working performance and service life are closely related to their surface properties. Improving surface properties cannot be achieved solely through material selection, which is also very uneconomical. However, in actual machining, it is essential to meet performance standards, necessitating the use of surface treatment technologies.

In the field of mold surface treatment, mold polishing technology is a crucial step and an important process in workpiece machining. Surface treatment processes for precision mechanical parts are very important in the machining process. It is worth noting that the surface polishing of precision mold parts is not only affected by the process steps and polishing equipment, but also by the mirror finish of the part material. This aspect is not currently given sufficient attention, illustrating that polishing itself is influenced by the material.

Although machining technologies for improving the surface performance of precision parts are constantly being innovated and upgraded, the most widely used techniques in precision parts machining are still hardening film deposition, nitriding, and carburizing. This is because nitriding technology can achieve a very high level of surface performance, and the nitriding process has a very high degree of coordination with the quenching process of the steel in precision parts.

Nitriding occurs at very low temperatures, so no intense cooling process is required after nitriding. As a result, the deformation of precision parts is very small. Therefore, nitriding is one of the earliest technologies used to enhance the surface properties of precision mechanical parts and is still widely used today.
